Double Hierarchies for Eicient Sampling in Monte Carlo Rendering

چکیده
We propose a novel representation of the light eld tailored to improve importance sampling for Monte Carlo rendering. e domain of the light eld i.e., the product space of spatial positions and directions is hierarchically subdivided into subsets on which local models characterize the light transport. e data structure is based on double trees, and only approximates the exact light eld, but enables ecient queries for importance sampling and easy setup by tracing photons in the scene. e framework is simple yet exible, supports any type of local model for representing the light eld, provided it can be eciently importance sampled, and progressive renement with an arbitrary number of photons. Last, we provide a reference open source implementation of our method.

An Attempt at Adaptive Sampling for Photorealistic Image Generation: Learning Sampling Schemes for Monte Carlo Rendering
We take a machine learning based approach to adaptive sampling for Monte Carlo Rendering, by using geometric and lighting data obtained through prior renders of scenes. Using nonlinear kernels, we trained Support Vector Machines of high accuracy, but complications arose in the labelling of our data, resulting in slightly impractical results for the sampler itself.
متن کاملMonte Carlo Rendering with Natural Illumination
We present a new sampling technique for using environment maps for illumination in a Monte Carlo ray tracer, based on directly importance sampling the continuous two-dimensional distribution of illumination as a function of direction. Unlike previous techniques for high-quality rendering with environment maps, our method requires very little precomputation, is easy to implement, and is compatib...
متن کاملA New Form Factor Analogy and its Application to Stochastic Global Illumination Algorithms
A new form factor analogy, that has been derived from results of integral geometry, is introduced. The new analogy is shown to be useful for stochastic evaluation of the local form of the rendering equation used in various Monte Carlo methods for calculating global illumination. It makes it possible to improve importance sampling in these methods, thereby speeding up convergence. A new class of...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Path Tracing
The rendering equation, given in the previous lectures, provides a theoretical solution for computing the radiance at any point in the scene. However, direct analytic computation of the integral is intractable for anything besides the most trivial of scenes. Monte Carlo path tracing is a practical general solution to the rendering problem, which tries to enumerate all light paths in the scene. ...
متن کاملParallel Monte Carlo Approach for Integration of the Rendering Equation
This paper is addressed to the numerical solving of the rendering equation in realistic image creation. The rendering equation is integral equation describing the light propagation in a scene accordingly to a given illumination model. The used illumination model determines the kernel of the equation under consideration. Nowadays, widely used are the Monte Carlo methods for solving the rendering...
